Clinical Disclaimer

The assessments on ADHDTests.com are not diagnostic instruments. They are psychometric screening and self-report tools designed to help you understand patterns in your own thinking, feeling, and functioning. Results do not constitute a clinical diagnosis and should not be treated as one.

What These Assessments Are

Our instruments are self-report psychometric tools developed by UK Consultant Psychiatrists in active NHS practice. They are designed to:

  • Help you recognise and understand patterns in your cognition, attention, emotional regulation, and executive function
  • Provide a structured way to explore whether further clinical assessment might be useful
  • Give you language and frameworks to discuss your experiences with healthcare professionals
  • Build a multi-dimensional picture of your cognitive profile through your Brain Profile

What These Assessments Are Not

No self-report instrument, however well-designed, can replace a comprehensive clinical assessment. Our assessments do not:

  • Diagnose ADHD, autism, or any other neurodevelopmental or mental health condition
  • Replace professional clinical interview, developmental history, or collateral information
  • Account for all factors that might explain your experiences (e.g. sleep disorders, thyroid conditions, trauma, anxiety, depression)
  • Provide medical advice or treatment recommendations

Developed by Specialists, Not a Substitute for Specialists

Our assessment instruments are developed by UK Consultant Psychiatrists in active NHS practice, drawing on current clinical evidence and psychometric best practice. However, the instruments themselves are screening tools. They are designed to help you understand patterns, not to label conditions. A clinical assessment involves face-to-face evaluation, developmental history, collateral information, and differential diagnosis — none of which can be replicated through an online questionnaire.

How to Use Your Results

Your results are most valuable when used as:

  • Personal insight — understanding your own patterns of attention, emotion, and executive function in a structured, validated framework
  • A conversation starter — sharing your Brain Profile or assessment results with a GP, psychiatrist, psychologist, or other healthcare professional to support a referral or clinical discussion
  • A self-awareness tool — identifying areas where you might benefit from strategies, accommodations, or further exploration

Limitations of Self-Report

All self-report instruments have inherent limitations. Please be aware of:

  • Self-report bias — your perception of your own functioning may differ from objective measures. You may underestimate or overestimate difficulties depending on your frame of reference.
  • Masking — many people with ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions have developed sophisticated compensatory strategies. Self-report may not capture the effort behind your performance.
  • Context-dependent performance — your cognitive functioning varies across contexts, stress levels, sleep quality, interest level, and time of day. A single assessment captures a snapshot, not the full picture.
  • Current state effects — your mood, fatigue, medication status, and recent experiences all influence how you respond to assessment questions.

Not Suitable For

Our assessments should not be used for:

  • Forensic or legal purposes
  • Employment decisions or workplace fitness assessments
  • Educational placement without independent clinical validation
  • Insurance claims or benefits applications as sole evidence
  • Self-diagnosis in place of professional evaluation
